In Praise of Old Condos | West Vancouver

Abstract: West Vancouver Home Inspector note on an older condo and its location.

There are many gems in West Vancouver to be found in older condos. Many have been owned by mature adults with no children (pristine condition) and are located in prime locations with easy (walkable) access to shopping, the library, recreation centre and the sea wall.

Many buyers are concerned about purchasing a condo in an older development. It’s true that foyers become dated, mechanical systems age, underground parking lots may leak, some building were leaky condo’s that were repaired correctly with rain screening technology. reading the condo disclosure documentation package should be able to clarify if the building has been well maintained or neglected.

On one particular Ambleside inspection of a 30 year old development it was difficult to find any major issues at all. As a bonus, if the buyer does not mind the (so called ‘dated’) look of brass, then renovations can be deferred or even dismissed. Plus, if the building is close to Marine Drive in either Ambleside or Dunderave and the condo is south facing, then one is likely to have an ocean view, second to none.
